Steel ball plungers.

When our regular car driver did not turn up, I hired an ‘acting driver’ who is paid by the hours put in by him. It turned out to be the acting driver is a plumber by profession and driving only part time. He also owns a small machine shop.

He carries his rather large tool kit that contains the usual pliers, wrenches, ball plungers, spanners and other paraphernalia.  I thought his spring catching mechanism was a little out dated and showed my rustic knowledge.

He acknowledged my observation and said he intended to replace the old ball plunger with a threaded, hand retractable spring plunger though he doubted whether it will be ever used because, these days, such jobs are carried out by machine operators engaged in organized home and industrial maintenance sector.
