Refurbishing old blog posts-is it worthwhile?

I have been frequently reading in so many places in the web that one should re-publish an old article after properly dusted and painted. If I only I get the courage to do that, I will have no dearth of my old articles. I took time to count all the blog posts that I have published in as many as 23 blogs since may 2005 and it stands at  whopping 11256!

Surely, I can close my eyes and click on the bank of archive and refurbish whatever pops up. However, they would be so out of place! What I wrote in 2006 would look rubbish in 2016.

For example, I recall writing about hundreds of tools for bloggers and web masters in the past. Almost all of them have closed their shops and vanished in cyber space. Even several blog promotions methods that we in practice have become obsolete.

Ah, yes, I have published more than 900 blog posts on various aspects of spiritual developments (not religion related of course) in my Laws of Universe blog. I am sure they would look green all time.

I will start today evening.

Creative ideas for your blog content.

What to blog about is the question that surfaces often even to bloggers who have been blogging for 8 years. (yep, I am pointing at me). When I confessed this to one of my friends, she jokingly told me that such a road block (rather blog block) happens only to long time bloggers because they run out of ideas, whereas, a new blogger would be brimming with content ideas.

I suppose she had a valid point.

Sometime before, I stumbled on to an excellent infographic titled "21 types of blog content we all crave. Without beating an eye lid, I pinned it on my pinterest.

The infographic is below and you may click on the image for a larger view.

Get more quality content for your blog by video curation.

Ever since I was fascinated by content curation, I got really busy compiling (it is called curating) curtaion ideas, curation tools and plugins and so on.

Just a few minutes ago, I stumbled onto a video answer for a question that popped up my mind. After I read, oh, rather viewed the video answer, I thought it is a creative idea to promote yourself as an expert , optimize and publicize your digital presence. Once your answer is liked by a viewer, your answers would be first searched for next time.

Are you beginning to get the possibilities?

For a blogger who is looking to fill up his blog with quality and useful content, he can really consider curating video answers and post them in his blog crediting the sources.

Creating your own video playlist
If I have the time and passion, I would first curate the video clips, upload in my favorite video channel and give it an apt name. I would then, make a blog post citing the link to my video play list!

Answers.com Videos has thousands of Educational, Amusing and Practical How To Videos.
Go to video.answers.com/

Read how Donna Papacosta received a surge of traffic to one of her video clips on YouTube. Actually, her video link got curated by someone else.

Blogger friendly content creation tool.

Some of the most useful tools to bloggers are not known to all because of poor popularity. Bloggers like me contribute a lot in such cases. Here, I am going to introduce a new tool to you called ‘Inbound Writer’. It is both a free and paid tool. Like most tools that offer both the versions, you are bound by certain limitations while using the free version.

How InboundWriter works?

InboundWriter is a fantastic blogging tool. Bloggers continually look for ways for optimum optimization of their blog content. IW helps you achieve this by optimizing your blog content so that, your blog posts continue to get organic traffic in the long run.

This is done through a user friendly web-based editng tool.  Simply copy and paste your blog post content into the editor, identify focus keywords, and the tool gives you some score with a maximum of 100. Naturally, the lower the score, the poorer the search engine optimization of your blog post.

Additionally, you can see how you are faring against competing blog content using the above method. If you take actions  by making the suggested changes to your content, the score will go up.

For the best and fresh blog content ideas.

Even passionate bloggers like me sometimes go blank for blog content ideas. At such times, I dig up one of my blog posts published one or two years ago, dust it, proof read, change a little and publish again.

Even though I have compiled a huge resource for blog content ideas, I feel lazy to look them up.

In my continuing quest for compiling ideas and resources for blog content, I stumbled on to quora.com yesterday.

Quora.com is the place where people go and ask questions on myriad topics and passionate trouble shooters patiently answer the questions as experts. It is a free platform for ardent knowledge seekers.

I could gather several useful topics for 3 of my blogs that I could not update as frequently as I was due to drying up of ideas to blog about.

Visit quora.com and you won;t be able to exit for a minimum of one hour.

Are you looking for free blog content?

Who is not looking for blog content? Even an experienced blogger like me who has already created more than 4000 unique blog posts would not mind free content that is not published anywhere in the Internet.

If you are in the habit of looking for full blog content, PLR articles are your only resources. However, if you can write a blog post containing about 200 words or less inspired by just a title or a sentence, you have oceans of them that I call content ideas.

Here are my resources for blog content:
* There are several web sites that sell niche blog content. Invariably, they show a few demo blogs. Looking at them would start you immediately.
* Review blogging is one big source of money for hundreds of bloggers. Their reviews of physical or digital products or services are excellent source for blog content as well as money.
* Find hot selling ebooks in clickbank. Their titles are ideal for writing a blog further on. Try using the same title.

I hope these very productive ideas would make you think and look creatively.

Don't be a content rapist.

Like you, I too got attracted to the words, 'content rapist'. I stumbled on to this somewhere in the web and that too long ago. Suddenly I remembered it and thought in what context the term content rapist might have been used!

I could think some of the following popular internet marketing strategies:
* Using PLR and rewriting it
* Autoblogging software

I could accept the rewriting of PLR content to some extent but never the creation of blogs using automatic blog post. It can be termed as content raping.

I never face shortage of ideas for blog content. I have compiled a big database of resources and reference materials for blog content. Ask me blog content ideas for any topic and I will give you resources.

However, even I too feel like taking a day off from blogging once in way. I presume every blogger feels the same way. At such times, I fight an overwhelming urge to use PLR content but somehow stayed away.

Differences between an article and blog post.

One of my blogging jobs was rejected by the job provider in Fiverr.com. The reason for rejection was it contained less than 200 words.

I told him that I am blogger, not an article writer. He should look elsewhere if he wanted a blog post with 400 words or more. It is a fact that most of those who are looking for bloggers to promote their products want articles, not blog posts.

There are some differences between an article and blog posts.

* Blog posts should be written in the first person. That is the basic meaning of web log.

* It should not be more than 250 words.

* It should not be lengthy with repeated sentences just to make it lengthy.

* The blog post should be written based on the blogger's personal experience or on an event or story that interested him.

* A little bit of imagination is required to write blog posts.

* A smiley here and an emoction there inside the blog posts, add personality to the blog content.

Blogs are loved by search engine as well as readers because of these points only. Any comments?

Yahoo! lists top 15 searches.

See, I am never short of content ideas! My eyes catches a lot and instantly my registers them as worthy of blogging about.

Have you heard about Buzzsaw? It is actually a shortcut on Feedage.com for the top 15 search terms as listed by

Long before Google's hot trends, Yahoo! Buzz was the cynosure of avid news readers and passionate bloggers (you may count me in). There is so much to read and digest in Tahoo! Buzz that it is not enought to write a single blog post covering all that interests you.

There are two top 15 lists in Buzzaw. One is called the 'Leaders' and the other is called the 'Movers'.

Check it out: http://www.feedage.com/buzzsaw.php

You can catch quite a few movers if you don't like the leaders.

How many words in your blog post?

I firmly believe that a blog post should not exceed 250 words. I am voicing this opinion after I read a rather detailed blog post by Viper Chill wherein he stated that the most popular and well read blog posts contained 1000 words.

(Source: http://www.viperchill.com/blog-post-length/)

Yes, I am surprised at that figure however true it may be. 1000 words! My God, that would be an academic essay only students and teachers would be interested in.

If a blog post does not give what the blogger wanted to tell his readers in 250 words or less, then, he is not an efficient blogger. This is my opinion and I am sure there are differences.

Personal blogs can be of any length. Such bloggers write only as a hobby. Pro-bloggers should be able to blog in 250 words to 300 words maximum.

First social blogging tool.

For the last half an hour, I was exploring the various features of Bag the web, a unique tool for bloggers to be of use to self and to other bloggers in the blogosphere.

What is a bag?
In simple terms, you create a virtual bag given by Bag the Web, drop every links to sites and blog posts that you find it useful to you. I am sure, if I find anything useful to me (I am a serious blogger), it will be useful to other bloggers across the world.

Can I call it Social Blogging?
Yes, you can. In fact, it is.

A bag can collect any topic. Also it can link to other relevant bags as references.

The whole process of creating your web bag is easy and fun. The user interface is very friendly.

Have a look at my web bag that I just created. This will give you a clear idea of a web bag.

Here is a screenshot of my bag. Click on my name to see my profile.

This is an excellent social blogging by which bloggers can reach out and also get valuable content for their blogs.

Why Digg? It is a waste of time.

One of very early blog post (Think again before social bookmarking)on how it is a waste of time doing social bookmarking created quite a stir but I somehow got on to the first page Google search results for the keyword "How to Digg".

I still stand by my claim that "Digg"ing is a waste of time unless:
You have your fairly large network of Diggers
You Digg only tech or political news
You Digg frequently
You submit only on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. (it is only the opinion of seasoned marketers)

My Don'ts:
Don't ever give in to Digg exchange. It won't yield any desired results.
Don't pay money to get Dugg. Waste of money.

So, ...?

So what?
Just stay out of Digg as a promotional website but use it to generate blog content ideas.

Forgive me Chris.
