Have you looked at the features of Casio Privia Px 150 Keyboard?

I am given to understand that the musicians are a sentimental lot and they don’t often  shift their allegiance to a particular brand of music instrument for any reason and that include, price variance, technological modifications and size.

Well, that said and understood, I was recently asked to look at the features of weighted keyboard casio px150 at guitarcenter.com and compare it with a similar digital piano by Yamaha.

If musicians are sentimental, I am of the opinion that even the listeners too are equally alike. I am a Casio fan and that’s why I politely refused to compare it with Yamaha. However, I promised to visit Guitar Center and look for Casio Privia Px 50 Keyboard.

A combination of a new keyboard action.

This headline aroused my curiosity naturally. This Casio keyboard too has 88 keys and the action is termed as Tri-sensor scaled hammer action keyboard. This key action facilitates real fast moving of fingers on them.

New sound engine

This is all about "AiR" (Acoustic and intelligent Resonator) an exclusive development by Casio. Ah yes, I also read that, a new “Damper Resonance simulator” enhances the riches of the sound delivered.

I confessed that I have no knowledge about “Damper Resonance simulator” and I promised that I will do a research and revert.

How much would a student clarinet cost?

The young boy, a teenager to be precise, was the star of attraction in local community function. He had gained reputation of being an extraordinary clarinet player.  In addition, when he started unpacking his clarinet kit, the various accessories were deliberately placed slowly and prominently too to display his pride of possessing such a clarinet.

I noticed the following besides that lovely clarineo (that’s how he called his clarinet) case;

·         Mouthpiece cap

·         Spare cane reed

·         Fingering chart (very thoughtful addition from Musicians’ Friend)

·         Cleaning cloth

The boy  played five music clips from the popular movies effortlessly and he never asked for any kind of accompanying music such as tabla.

When he packed his case, I noticed that the clarinet was made of three parts and appeared light weight too.

To be frank, looking at the ease with which the clarinet was played by such a young boy, I felt an irresistible urge to try my hand (rather mouth) on it.

Which is the most stylish guitar?

Long before my son bought his first Gibson guitar, he picked a few Gibson fans in his college campus who then led him to an online club of Gibson fans. He read polls, poured through reviews, worked part time to save enough to buy his dream acoustic electric guitar.

He was smart enough to wait for notification of gibson j-45 for sale and thus saved substantial money to buy a portable amplifier also. I was really happy for him though he initially got me worried when he told me that even the lowest priced Gibson electric guitar would cost around $2000.

He was determined to lay his hands on a trendy and stylish guitar and I heartily appreciated his steely resolve. He fell for the look of it rather than its performance. On my part, I gave him money to buy a sleek case for his new guitar.

Yesterday, he left for a short holiday and took his guitar and amplifier. He glowed when he packed his music accessories.

The most affordable kids piano starter pack.

Children that start playing music, grow to become lovable human beings. This is acknowledged by people of all castes and creeds. I think music makes anyone mellow down. Musicians mostly have soft hearts and posses a gentle behavior.

If your son or daughter pester you for affordable kids piano or a guitar made exclusively for little fingers, do not refuse. Yield to the request and you will realize how happy you are after that. I am telling it from my own experience.

My son wanted a guitar at 11. He never took formal lessons and still managed to play for his school band. He grew to become an excellent computer engineer.

These days, piano starter packs are advanced and very affordable. They come with more keys and wonderful music software that makes the piano learning easy. The built in demo songs are play their part in music learning by the kids.

Oh yes, when you finally make up your mind to get a keyboard for your son, make sure it comes with a recording facility so that you would never miss your son’s occasional geniuses.

Why use Evans J1 etched drumhead?

I read that the most preferred drumhead by snare drummers is the cheap evans j1 etched drumhead. There are bound to be differences of opinions based on the drummer beating intensity. When I questioned this reason with a hint of sarcasm, I was given another view. Some bands may be asked to perform in a large stage where the microphones may not be able to pick up the drum sounds if the drummer has feather touch.

Wow! So many things matter for a music band leader!

The etched surface of drumhead came into being when more sophisticated drum brushes were introduced because even a mild stroke can be picked by etched drumhead. Rawhides and calfskin drumheads do not respond well to brushes.

This new found knowledge was the outcome of an African drummer’s visit to my office to enroll his daughter in my math coaching class.

The most intricately carved Djembe depicts Ramayan characters!

For the entire 10 plus minutes, I was glued to the YouTube video clip that showed the making of a ‘Djembe’ in an African village. Well, it was not the meinl rama sita deluxe djembe at guitar centerbut rather a primitive one without any carvings on the body of the “Djembe’. The former Djembe shown below is intricately engraved with the characters from the Hindu epic Ramayan. I could not understand how the African natives learnt about Ramayan and what the relation between Ramayan and an African drum is!

From time immemorial, African percussion music instruments captured the fascination of millions of musicians. The hundreds of variations of drums today must have been inspired by the African drums such as dunun, Djembe etc.

Oh yes, coming back to the making of Djembe, it was made of really solid mahogany wood.

The way the maker carried it with his hands indicated its heaviness. I enjoyed the way it was tuned.

Do you know that the Djembes are quickly sold out as soon as they reach the online music stores?

The best price for Steve Vai signed Ibanez Jem guitar.

Ever since I showed him the picture of this (see below) gorgeous guitar made by Ibanez Jem, my son downloaded the picture from the Internet and pasted it on his bedroom wall with a note underneath it reading, “I would to cradle you one day”.

He told me that his guitar master bought Ibanez jem at musicians friend last year and he was allowed to cradle it just for a few seconds and not allowed to strike the string. He was very excited that day. Since it is very pricey, he resolved to save money with renewed vigor.

Without his knowledge, I used to stuff a few small notes in his wallet now and then so that he could realize his dream soon.

When counted his savings yesterday, he was still short of $300. Way to go my dear son!

Where to buy the best of travel Banjo?

There is always a dispute over the origin of Banjo between Irish country musicians and American folk musicians. Both claim the origin of Banjo to their respective country. I tend go with the Africa. The native Africans have invented the maximum number of musical instruments made from myriad materials.

Irish folk music has great history. They play with several instruments and Banjo is one of them.

If you want to shop goodtime banjo, it is better you learn something about the shape and structure of banjo used a century ago. Contemporary banjo certainly is a modified version.

I never came across a banjo player in India. I think Mandolin played by a number of people in India comes close to banjo.

Avail $400 discount on best Korg Keyboards.

After I wrote a review for one the best Korg Keyboards (unfortunately, it was not published), I was expectantly searching the stage whether anyone is using the same at the live show of musician A.R.Rehman.

I thought I identified one but was not sure because I was sitting in a far corner of the concert hall. I was hoping to strike up a conversation with that pianist during the intermission but I was not allowed anywhere near the stage.

I wanted to share with someone there urgently about the whopping $400 discount which I was afraid might expire soon. The Korg keyword workstation with 88 keys seems to be a marvelous sound machine.

I am contemplating to rewrite my review of Korg Krome 88 Keyboard Workstation and approach another publishing platform that is focusing on musical instruments.

Does that ring any bell to you?
