How to find blogs of your interest?

Often, my blogging trainees question me who I stay updated all the time in blogosphere. I tell them I read several numbers of blogs daily by subscribing their ESS feed.

How to find such blogs in the first place? After all, there
are millions of blogs on all kinds of niche. It would be a herculean task to filter-right?
With so many blogs currently available online it can be difficult to determine which blogs are worth reading and which are not.  Yes, this is definitely difficult. You can eliminate blogs of poor quality only by trial and error. There are no other ways.

Through this blog post, I will share with you my knowledge on finding and selecting blogs to read through search engines, blog directories, Google alerts, Yahoo! Answers and so on.

Using Search Engines to Find Blogs
Search engines are one of the most dependable resources for bloggers to find useful blogs. An Internet user who is looking for a blog on a particular subject can start the process of finding these blogs by entering relevant keywords or phrases into a popular search engine and carefully reviewing the results provided for this search.

Blog Search Engines:
There are search engines exclusively for blogs.
·         Blogsearch.google.com
·         Technoratity.com

One simple way the Internet user can use search engines to find blogs relating to a particular subject is to include the word blog with the keywords or phrases entered into the search engine. This will help to filter the search results and may push blogs towards the front of search results. However, Internet users are better off searching for collections of blogs and then searching within these collections for ones of interest.

Finding Blogs on Message Boards
Many Internet users rely on message boards to find interesting and informative blogs. This is because many message board participants who have a blog often find ways to make others aware of this blog. This may either be through the process of incorporating a link to the blog in the message board user’s signature or, when appropriate, supplying the link to the blog directly in the message body of a post on the message board.

Although many bloggers may take advantage of the opportunity to promote their own blog through message boards, those who are interested in finding new blogs will likely not have time to review all of these blogs. Therefore, it is wise for these Internet users to be somewhat discriminating about the blogs they choose to visit. One way to do this is to only visit blogs of regular forum posters who offer valuable information to the conversations on the message board.

The Internet user may also wish to avoid blogs which appear to be posted as spam. This is important because these blogs are not only likely poor quality but also visiting these blogs only encourages the blog owner to continue to spam message boards with his link.

Blogging Communities:
I have found some of the best blogs that I read regularly in several blogging communities.
·         Blogcatalog.com
·         Bloggers.com
·         Blogfrog.com

Making Use of Yahoo! Answers.
Yahoo! Answers is an excellent source to ask for anything. Highly knowledgeable members would be eager to provide answers which are invariably very good.

New search engine for your blogs.

One of my blog post titled "List of Blog Search Engines" has received the following comment.
"Boris has left a new comment on your post "List of blog search engines.":

You may want to consider adding Zuula to your list of blog search engines.

It's different than many of the other engines you have, since it's more a blog meta search engine. But it makes it incredibly easy to check eight different major blog search engines, all from one site. And, once you've used it, you'll realize how different the results can be from the various engines.

Plus, Zuula is useful for general web search, image search, and news search as well.

Hope you find it useful!"

So, I visited Zuula just now. I did two searches; one on blog directories and one on 'Blog Avenues'-hi hi, yes on this blog; just to test you know. (smile)

The search results from Google yielded 936 results.
Yahoo 1410
MSN 338
Gigablast 123
Exalead 100
Alexa 129
Accona 55
Mojeek 95741

Obviously, Mojeek's results are not correct as it searched for blog and avenues separately too even though I put the search term in quotes.

As you can see, Zuula search 7 major search engines and gives the results in tabs.

Zuula can be added in Firefox's search box.

List of blog search engines.

As I have already written, I collect blog directories and search engines and submit my blogs manually to them.

Only once, I hired help to submit this very same blog to about 100 blog directories. Whenever I come across a list of directories and search engines, I save it in my computer and use it slowly. And I don't fail to share it with you.

Here is one more list that I am sharing with you. Submitting to blog search engines is always easy. You should keep your blog's feed url handy. Never fail to log your work to avoid duplication. You will also save valuable time by logging your work.

Please share this list with others.

Thank you Ari Paparo!

Submit to 148 major search engines.

No, I am yet to try this free service that says " Submit your site to 148 major search engines in one click and get instant access to search engine ranking, metatags, website analyzer, link checker, keyword generator, pay per click tracker, popularity checker tools all for free!"-http://www.quickregister.net/np.html

I mostly do it manually and individually. I have a big list of blog directories and blog search engines. I do it once a day and log my report which of course is a cumbersome process but very essential in order to avoid duplicate submission.

As a directory owner, I know how annoying it is edit blog listing requests that invariably do not follow the rules of submissions.

Ok, any feedback on the above free service?

Submit your blog to RSS Micro.

The word micro is added to RSS for reasons unknown to me but it sounds nice-isn't it?

It is very useful to submit our blogs not only to blog directories but also to as many feed search engines as possible.

RSS Micro is an online RSS feed search engine with more than 65 million feeds, blog posts, and news articles that you can browse and search into.

Just click on the 'Submit Feed' button, fill up a short form and hit 'Submit'. As a rule, they will review your submission before approving it.

Even their inner pages boast a PR6.

Spread the word.
