You can also use a popular blog software like wordpress.
Usage of regular web hosting companies are also in vogue.
Content of blogs:
Blogs mostly focus on a particular subject (niche), such as religion, news, technology, business. Majority of the blogs function as online diaries.
Blogs also contain images, animated texts and figures and links to other blogs, web pages.
History:
As per wikipedia "The modern blog evolved from the online diary where people would keep a running account of their personal lives. The first of these started in 1994 by Swarthmore student Justin Hall."
