Where do you buy genuine and original software?

Where do people buy genuine and original software? This question has been on my mind for a long time. I think many of you also would like to know the answer to this question.

Do people go to their nearest computer shop and buy any software? What if the shop doesn't have the stock?
How people ensure that what they are buying locally offline is genuine software?

There are may be several dealer online but again the question of genuineness and originality is raised-right?
